Unstoppable Underprivileged Children

How do you create an Educationally unstoppable child? What essential things are necessary to ensure that a child chooses success in education and ultimately chooses success in life? No human being wants to be unsuccessful, therefore why is this such a troubling question?
Efficacy. Your personal opinion of your own ability level. As educators we attempt to teach our student information to equip them for the future. We have targets, goals and curriculum to meet, reach, and abide by. Ultimately, however have we lost sight of the Big picture. A student said to me the other day "You always talking 'bout the big picture," and I said "Yeah and you don't talk about it enough." But really now I am thinking maybe I don't talk to her enough about the big picture. Maybe we as educators spend so much times talking about Punnet squares, discipline, and standardized test that we forget to tell students to believe in themselves first. I have come to the conclusion that we must make a fantasy world seem possible, close, and real to students that many times don't even have enough hope to dream about a fantasy. Then we must convince them that even though they may falter on their road towards the fantasy that the road does not end at the location of their stumble, but yet at their destination. Lastly we must teach them to learn, no longer can we afford to teach content for content is worthless without application and purpose. We must give these underprivileged students our all...our greatest gift our ability to learn. How? We focus on learning skills not content, we don't cater only to certain learning types instead we demonstrate how to learn through all learning types. We focus on what enabled all of us to matriculate through our educational institutions the confidence to believe that we possess the ability to learn and apply the knowledge that we have gained. Therefore we must not only teach learning, but also how to establish the confidence necessary to accomplish learning.

  1. I think your comments are on point. However, I prefer the word dreams. Fantasy is equated with unreal, not possible, make believe world. Whereas, dreams are know to come true. Dream big and pursue your dreams.
